Butterfly Valves

Product Range

Butterfly Valves

Butterfly valves are the workhorse isolation valve for medium and large diameter water pipelines. AFC Valves Europe supplies the full range of concentric, double-eccentric and lugged-wafer designs for clean water, raw water, treated effluent and process duties. Sizes from DN50 to DN1200, pressure ratings PN10 / PN16 / PN25.

About Butterfly Valves

Butterfly valves are the preferred isolation valve for medium and large diameter pipelines across the water, wastewater and industrial sectors. Their compact face-to-face dimensions, low actuator torque and straightforward operation make them the practical choice for pipelines from DN50 upwards, particularly where space, weight or cost rule out gate valves of equivalent diameter. For water utilities and pipeline contractors across Europe, butterfly valves represent the default isolation solution on trunk mains, pump station headers and treatment works pipework.

The concentric butterfly valve, where the disc centre, stem centre and seat centre share a common axis, is the standard design for water distribution and sewage duties at pressures up to PN16. The FBLC concentric flanged butterfly valve is manufactured to EN 593 with a ductile iron body, stainless steel stem and EPDM or NBR elastomer seat. The full-face rubber-lined seat provides bubble-tight shut-off in both directions and tolerates the particulates and occasional solids found in raw water and treated effluent pipelines.

For higher pressures or duties where the concentric design's inherent seat compression is unacceptable, the double eccentric butterfly valve offers significantly reduced seat wear and a longer service life. The FBGD double eccentric flanged butterfly valve is suitable for PN25 duty and is the appropriate choice for pump station isolation, pressure zone boundaries and applications where frequent actuation is required. The double eccentric geometry means the disc lifts clear of the seat on opening, virtually eliminating friction wear.

The wafer-lugged butterfly valve from Alpine Flow Control is a compact, cost-effective solution for flanged pipelines where the valve must be removable without disturbing adjacent pipework. The lugged design allows the valve to act as a pipeline end stop. Available in DN50 to DN300, it is widely used by building services contractors, mechanical and electrical installers and industrial plant operators across Europe. The wafer form factor minimises installation weight and reduces the flanged spool length compared to full-bodied flanged valves.

Actuator options include handwheel gearboxes (standard on larger sizes), lever operators, electric actuators and pneumatic actuators. For remote-operated isolation in water treatment works, pump stations and distribution chambers, electric actuators with local and remote control and position feedback are readily available. We can supply valves factory-fitted with actuators, position indicators and limit switches to reduce site installation time and commissioning effort.

All butterfly valves in our range are supplied with material certificates, pressure test records and EN 593 compliance documentation. WRAS-approved variants are available for drinking water duties. We regularly assist contractors and procurement teams with equivalency submissions against named products specified in tender documents.
