Plug Valves

Plug valves provide bubble-tight shut-off and quarter-turn operation for chemical, sewage and slurry duties where ball or butterfly valves are unsuitable. AFC Valves Europe supplies PTFE fully lined, eccentric, three-way and capping plug valves. Sizes DN15 to DN500.

About Plug Valves

Plug valves provide reliable quarter-turn isolation for fluid services where the nature of the medium makes ball valves or butterfly valves unsuitable. Slurries, sewage, chemical effluent, abrasive suspensions and viscous fluids can damage the seats and seals of valves designed for clean water duty. Plug valves use a rotating cylindrical or tapered plug with a PTFE or elastomer-lined bore, presenting a smooth, flush internal surface that resists fouling, is easy to clean and tolerates moderate levels of solid contamination.

The eccentric plug valve uses an off-centre plug that lifts clear of the seat on opening and engages with positive mechanical pressure on closing. This cam-like seating action means the plug does not rotate against the seat face, which is the main cause of seat wear in conventional plug valve designs, and results in very long seat life even with frequent operation. Eccentric plug valves are the preferred choice for waterworks, sewage and industrial service where operational frequency is high.

Fully PTFE-lined plug valves offer an inert barrier between the plug body and the process fluid, making them suitable for chemical service, food processing and pharmaceutical applications where metallic contamination or corrosion of the valve body is a concern. PTFE lining covers the full wetted surface including the bore and end faces, providing broad chemical resistance across a wide pH range.

Three-way plug valves allow a single valve to divert flow between two outlet ports or to mix flows from two inlets. They are used in chemical dosing systems, bypass arrangements and multi-port manifolds where directional control of a single pipeline junction is required. Quarter-turn operation and a clear visual indicator on the plug stem make them straightforward to operate and maintain.

Capping plug valves provide temporary isolation at the end of a pipeline, replacing a blank flange with a valve that can be opened when the pipeline is eventually extended. They are frequently used by water utilities and contractors for new connection points, future branches and bypass connections on live mains.

AFC Valves Europe supplies plug valves in ductile iron and cast iron with flanged connections to EN 1092-1. Size range is DN15 to DN500. Full technical data, dimensional drawings and test certificates are provided with every order. We supply to water utilities, wastewater operators, chemical plant contractors and industrial maintenance teams across Europe.
